September 8 - This day in Petty history - part 2

1968 - Richard wins his 87th career race by winning the pole, leading two-thirds of the race, and winning the Capital City 300 at Richmond. The race was the first one run on an asphalt surface at Richmond. From its opening, Richmond had been a dirt track.
