July 13 - This day in Petty history

1967 - Starting from the pole, Richard Petty leads 118 of 200 laps and wins at Fonda Speedway in Fonda, NY to claim his 62nd career NASCAR Grand National victory.

The race at Fonda was part of NASCAR's 'Northern Tour' during the mid to late 60s - a swing of races through tracks such as Fonda and Islip, New York; Trenton, NJ; Oxford Plains, ME; and Thompson, CT. Fonda hosted four Grand National races - the first in 1955 and the remaining three from 1966-1968.

The track remains open today and runs a full schedule of modifieds, street stocks, and other local series.
